After one season in the Deep South Division of the Southern Conference, the Otters return to the South Atlantic Division in the Eastern Conference, where they played their first two seasons in the PDL. The division is composed of two teams in Eastern Virginia, four teams in North Carolina, and the Otters.
However, the division looks much different than it did in the 2016 and 2017 seasons. Gone are familiar foes Peachtree City, Tormenta FC, and South Carolina United who remain in the Southern Conference, as are the Charlotte Eagles who will join the Deep South Division. The Carolina Dynamo is the only opponent that remains from the Otters time in the South Atlantic Division.
Joining the Otters and Dynamo is Tobacco Road FC located in Durham, NC, and the North Carolina United FC U-23s located in Cary, NC who were both in the division last year. Successful expansion side Lionsbridge FC in Newport News, Virginia will also stay in the division.
USL League Two also added two new expansion sides, which will play their first seasons in 2019 as a part of the South Atlantic Division. First, is Wake FC who are located in Wake County, NC and the other team, Virginia Beach United, will be based out of southeast Virginia.
The seven-team division will play 14 games, with a home and away series against each team and will face two other opponents an additional third time.
The highest points-getter will get an automatic bid to the playoffs, and the team with the next highest point total among the three Eastern Conference divisions will receive the conference’s fourth and final playoff spot.
The full schedule will be announced in the coming weeks! Be sure to follow us on social media to learn more about the upcoming season, as well as other events that the Otters have planned leading up to and during the season! #FearTheFur
